Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) and Backup Codes
Protect your portal account with TOTP authenticator apps and generate emergency recovery backup codes.
Enabling Two-Factor Authentication
Inside Portal > Security > Two-Factor Authentication (`/portal/security/two_factor/new`), you can add a second layer of security to your user account using any standard TOTP authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password).
Scan the QR code displayed on screen and enter the 6-digit verification code to activate two-step verification on every future login.
- Compatible with all standard TOTP mobile and desktop authenticator apps.
- Prompts for a 6-digit code at `/users/sign_in/two_factor` after password verification.
- Can be disabled or rotated at any time from your security settings.
Downloading Recovery Backup Codes
Once 2FA is active, visit `/portal/security/two_factor/backup_codes` to generate one-time emergency backup codes. Store these codes in a safe place so you can sign in if you ever lose access to your phone.
